How I can help you

Services

What do I check for?

By proofreading your content, I am the last eyes on your written materials before they head out into the big wide world. I check a variety of elements to ensure you put out a polished, professional, final product.

These key areas of focus are included:

  • Grammar—making sure your sentences make sense.

  • Spelling—ensuring they are correct and consistent throughout, no matter if you’re American, British, Australian, or from the planet Mars.

  • Punctuation—let me spare you the agony of where to put your commas.

  • Capitalisation—always consistent, always correct.

  • Hyphenation—same as above.

  • Correct word usage—including homophones (words that sound the same but differ in meaning and spelling) and homonyms (words that sound and spell the same but differ in meaning). Grammarly will not catch these errors!

  • Formatting—so your text looks as good as it reads!

  • Language styles—you might employ a style guide such as APA, MLA, or Chicago. My job is to make sure its principles are applied consistently.

What texts do I proofread?

I read and amend an eclectic range of texts but some of my favourite genres include online business, blogs, marketing, and entrepreneurship; ethical hacking and the cyber security industry; childcare, child development, and education; travel; ESL or TEFL teaching materials; and musical articles, discussions, and journals.

How do I proofread?

This is largely up to you!

Industry-wide, Microsoft Word is the favourite program used for making edits. But I also proofread Google Docs and PDFs.

Microsoft Word and Google Docs have a “suggest changes” function where I can correct much like how I would with a red pen and physical copy. The benefit is that my suggestions can be reviewed individually, and they can be accepted or rejected as you see fit.

For PDFs, I use an annotation app which allows for easy mark-ups.

A thorough service

“I couldn’t have asked for better service. Lucy had thoroughly covered and checked through every letter and punctuation mark in my essays, leaving me to focus on the content and not some silly error.”
